Dear Friends and art enthusiasts, I have some exciting news to share. Starting this February, I will be undertaking two artists residencies as the first major project of Orama Global Residency Initiative, an entity I created for some of my more ambitious, international projects. The first residency will be in Nairobi, Kenya, at the Kuona Trust, and the second will be in Caylus, France at DRAWInternational. For two months in each location I will be teaching and making art. To that end, I have launched a crowdfunding campaign (link below), in addition to the oramaglobal.com website, which I will be updating regularly with new artwork, videos, photos, and other interesting events from my two residencies. I am selling my artwork at discount, tax deductible rates to fund this adventure, so if you are interested in my art this is a good chance to acquire it and help the O.G.R.I. cause. I have 3 art pieces up at the newly established Kathryn Miriam Contemporary Gallery in Norwalk, Connecticut. Kathryn has many years experience as a gallerist in New York City, and this is her long-anticipated gallery. If you are in Connecticut, stop by and check out the work! My latest piece, "Detail Oriented", will be featured in the 'You'll Miss Me When I'm Gone' group show at My Plastic Heart Gallery in Manhattan, New York. The show is curated by the supremely talented Lou Pimentel who will also have work on display. I am also happy to report that my artwork was selected for the postcard of the show, as you can see below. This runs for all of September, go see some amazing artwork in a very interesting space in Lower Manhattan.
I am pleased to announce my participation in the 2014 Governor's Island Art Fair. I will have my own room to turn into a gallery/installation/inhabitable painting. For those of you not familiar with G.I.A.F., it's held on, naturally, Governor's Island off of the southern tip of Manhattan every weekend of September. It's organized by 4heads and is a serious event full of serious and talented artists, with work running the gamut of visual art (video, sculpture, performance, etc). Come check it out, say hi:
CM Magazine, an international web publication, was kind enough to conduct this interview with me last month. We discussed process, meaningful nonsense, and the vicissitudes that beset emerging/aspiring artists:
I will be showcasing new work on June 27th at the Panorama RAW showcase here in NYC. The event is at 'The Cutting Room' and will feature many more visual artists, as well as musicians and performers.
